So there's this little show called Subterranean that used to be called 120 Minutes back in the day. It's nigh bunk anymore, but I do manage to get introduced to a handful of goodies now and then from watching it. Case in point from last year:
TV on the Radio - Staring at the Sun
TV on the Radio - Satellite
The former is just gorgeous, both sonically [i.e., listen to it LOUD] and melodically [i.e., it's perty]. The latter is just plain thumpin', yo.
These two tracks are from the band's Young Liars EP which is simply stellar [and it includes an a capella cover of the Pixie's Mr. Grieves ... i mean C'MON!]. Their follow up LP Desparate Youth, Blood Thirsty Babes hasn't yet lived up to the EP, but I'm hoping it's a multi-listen grower.
I've got to say I really do like this band. I was put off at first by some of the music, but after I heard the Mr. Grieves cover I was turned around. They have a dient sound to many of the things I listen to. I haven't heard too much of Desparate Youth, but I second Mikey's recommendation of the band.
